Butterfly valves with supervisory switches provide local control of the water flow in the fire extinguishing systems. There are threaded, grooved, and wafer-connected types. The supervisory butterfly valves have a switch box with an on/off position indicator. The information about whether the valve is open or closed is sent to the automation system via a connection. It is typically preferred over rising stem valves at floor entrances due to its smaller size and lower cost. Both indoor and outdoor use is appropriate.
