Fire pumps in sprinkler extinguishing systems are activated by a sudden drop in system pressure. Jockey Pumps are the pumps that are a part of the system and are used to keep the pressure at its current level. They are chosen to have a flow that is less than the flow requirement that would result from the opening of a single sprinkler. They are typically multistage, small pumps.
